Olga Sokolova, Writer & Initiator of RuBERoid Festival, Schöneberg

November 2, 2014

This is Olga. Olga grew up in Sochi and studied Cultural History in St. Petersburg. To Berlin she came by coincidence about five years ago. “I had never been to Berlin before,” she says, “and when I arrived with my two suitcases from Frankfurt Airport, I instantly felt that I belonged and that there is something in this city only I could do.” What Olga does is writing her Master’s thesis in religious studies at the Free University of Berlin right now. Also, she is one of the initiators and organizers of RuBERoid Festival, where she is in charge of its public relations. So why do you work for RuBERoid, I ask? “There is nothing comparable to the festival in Berlin,” she says and continues: “Actually, it’s a little bit like Berlinograd.com: We want to negate the stereotypes about Russians; we want to play with them and show how lovable they actually are.”
