Dmitriy Vachedin, Writer and Screenwriter, Charlottenburg

June 17, 2014

This is Dmitriy. Dmitriy grew up in St. Petersburg and came to Mainz, Germany when he was 17. He stayed in Mainz for his studies and then moved on to Bonn, where he worked as a journalist for Deutsche Welle and wrote his first novel. His Russian-language debut novel Snow Germans was published in Russia in 2010 but has only recently been translated and published in the USA, where it received outstanding reviews. The young author came to Berlin about a year ago and is currently working as a screenwriter. “Why did you move here and what do you like best about the city?”, I ask him. “The variety of possibilities to live and create your life”, he says. “Berlin motivates you…” Here he hesitates for a moment, then continues enthusiastically: “In fact it actually forces you into being creative!”
