RUSummit 2018 x Berlinograd 1920s

Berlinograd.com and Russian Standard presented the exhibition of “Berlinograd 1920s” and co-hosted the Get Together event at the conference RUSummit 2018 in Berlin-Mitte last Friday. RUSummit is an exclusive business-event on Russian digital economy in Berlin. Founded and organized by Ostexperte.de and Trust in Time Agency – the conference connects digital and traditional companies, decision-makers in Russian business and visionaries of Eurasia and the New Silk Road.

The exhibition “Berlinograd 1920s” is based on our same-named Berlinograd column which transports the reader on fictional journeys into the world of Berlinograd. The column itself is an art project by author Ani Menua together with illustrator Ekaterina Koroleva who combine text and illustration to create a world that allows us to meet and speak with Russian artists. Together with the designer Helena Melikov as well as the Beatrice Grundheber, the editor-in-chief of Berlinograd.com, the exhibition “Berlinograd 1920s” was created.

Berlinograd 1920s

In the Golden Twenties of the 20th century many Russian artists found a haven to present new forms of art to an audience that was both accessible and open. Among them were artists whose genius completely changed and revolutionized the world of aesthetics, such as Marc Chagall, Marina CvetaevaKazimir Malevich and many more. The term “Berlinograd” describes the Russian Berlin of that era, when almost half a million Russians emigrated to Berlin for political reasons and decisively shaped the intellectual culture of the city. At that time Berlin was often referred to as the “third capital” of Russia. In a very short period, Russian intellectuals had the opportunity to articulate their beliefs and reveled in this freedom. This is a tribute to those times and to the artists.

A huge thank you to our sponsor Russian Standard without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.
